New Year’s Day
A new start in the garden is a good idea on New Year’s Day, and
since the chickens were killed a short time ago, it’s time to change
the look of the garden. It’s certainly been a lot tidier since their
demise, although I’d rather have the mess.
Since we no longer need to have rocks around all the small plants
to protect them from being dug up, there are enough around to
build a rock and cacti garden in a hot spot.
The azaleas were moved today, to a slightly shadier place at the
side of the house, where hopefully they will do better. Drought
conditions certainly don’t suit them.
I’d really like to have a fernery, but there is nowhere with enough
shade and moistness to support it, and there isn’t enough rain
anyway. If we could water the garden, it would be fine, but there
are too many restrictions at the moment, so the fernery is out.
Looks as it we will have to go with more trees and shrubs, and
those plants which can get by on a smaller amount of rain, until
the drought breaks.
